iOS11 is bringing hardware HEVC-video decoding to iPhones and iPads with A9 (released in 2015) and newer CPUs. I noticed that current version is still forcing the encoding of HEVC mp4-videos. Hopefully we will see update that allows the streaming of HEVC-videos without conversion.

You're right, it would be handy as new feature. 4th gen AppleTV also use A9.

I would love to see the pass through of hevc (x265) without transcoding. I have a Chromecast Ultra which plays hevc (x265) natively so transcoding is a waste and a quality degradation.

+1 for this feature--it would be nice to have HEVC/x265 video passthrough from server to client, as this format is becoming more common and Apple is adding native support to their operating systems. Maybe its a new version of the client app that's iOS11 and up only (e.g. AirVideo HD+) or an in-app upgrade/purchase?
