Sorry for the delay. I've uploaded new build that should support VLC 2.2 and was built on Centos 6.6, so it should support distributions with older glibc. Make sure that you have VLC installed and avahi daemon is running. Link is in original post.

Great - having downloaded the latest package version, it is now running happily and able to transcode videos. One minor issue is that it doesn't seem to correctly interpret paths which include whitespace (eg "TV Shows") - I've been able to work around this by creating a symlink to the directory in question and providing that in the config instead, but it's something that should really be resolved.

What we really need now would be supported init scripts (I have tried the System-V style init script provided by Istein on the first page of this thread, and altered to try to work around the limitation of UID and GID variables being read-only under CentOS, but am still unable to get it to run).

EDIT: In the mean-time, I have created a very short script to call the start.sh script as user 'airvideo' (and nice the process to a value of 10 so as not to disrupt anything else whilst transcoding video), in rc.local at startup.

2.1.0-beta3 is not working on Ubuntu 14.04LTS either. Crashes straight away (segmentation fault)

I can't really reproduce the crash. Does it work when you remove the libdbus-1.so.3 library from Resources/libs ?

Yes, it still segfaults for me with that file removed.

Can you provide core dump file?

That's the weird thing ... it's not producing a core dump file. At least, not in any of the airvideo-hd folders that I can find. Any debugging I can do?

You may need to set ulimit for coredump to be produced.

ulimit -c unlimited

I'm not sure where the dump will be placed - it could be in the home directory.

You can find my core dump in the attachment. It crashes both with and without the libdbus-1.so.3 library. This dump is with the library.

I am running Ubuntu 14.04.1-amd64

Keep up the good work!!!

Regarding the crash: Did you comment out the useCustomInitialPort and portMapping items from the configuration file?

The server currently crashes when both of those are absent. Will be fixed in next beta.

I just tried commenting those lines out of Server.properties, but it still segfaults/coredumps.

It will segfault if they are commented out; They need to be there for the server not to crash.

Does it crash if you run it with the original (unmodified) server.properties file?

Ouch. I think I know where the problem is. Config file parsing is case sensitive, and we changed the property names to start with lowercase.

it needs to be called externalAccess not ExternalAccess, portMapping not PortMapping, etc.

It should have been case insensitive. My bad, will be fixed in next update as well.

Bingo! That was it! I lower-cased all the properties (except for VLCLibraryPath) and the server started. Thanks!

(and I confirm transcoding works with VLC 2.2/Ubuntu 14.10)

Tried the current beta3 with useCustomInitialPort and portMapping uncommented on Ubuntu 14.04.1 and can confirm: working!

Is the avahi-daemon really needed? What is the purpose of avahi?
