Hi,

on Windows Air Video Server HD will use DirectShow codecs when VLC is not present. So you should be fine with ffdhow or LAV filters. The additional benefit of VLC is that the plugin architecture is lighter and that it has slightly less overhead than DirectShow, but the difference shouldn't be too big.

Thank you for your answer. So if I installed the 64-bit beta version of the server, should I install 64-bit VLC instead?

Instead of 32bit VLC? Yes. 64bit server would use 64bit VLC and 64bit directshow plugins.
